Employee Spotlight – Freya O Sullivan – Corporate Security Officer

How long have you been with the company?

Just over 3 years, I joined in June 2019 and before that, I was a security operations administrator at Apple.

Currently, I’m the head of access control on my site which involves issuing access control cards, approving contractors on site following up on issued access cards, and ensuring all documentation is in order when contractors are going off-site. I’m also fully trained as a Fire Warden and First Aider.

Originally, I wanted to be a prison officer and that’s what attracted me to security. One of my old employers suggested that I apply for a security role, and I have been here since.

Tell us about your experience of working with Elevare.

Elevare has been so helpful in helping me grow as an officer by putting me on a supervisory course. As a mom, they have been understanding of my needs with my work schedule.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I would love to see myself in a management role. I would like to see myself climbing the ladder and taking on a role as an operations manager. I definitely think I would have the skill set to be successful in that environment in the future but in the medium term, I would like to progress into a team lead role.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Take notes, everything is just aimed at taking notes. It’s always great to reference back when you have it written down and it will always be there.

What are the toughest challenges you’ve had at work?

How stressful it can be sometimes. When something happens it usually means that everything happens together. It sometimes can be hard to manage everything at once, but I find that once you prioritise your workload it can be dealt with easily.

In terms of successes, which accomplishments are you most proud of?

Recently I got a distinction in a security supervisory course at an advanced level which I’m very proud of. Especially when I was on Maternity leave for almost a year and to accomplish something less than 3 months after returning I think is a great accomplishment.
